Julie Brain began her criminal defense career in 1990 as an intern with the Georgia Resource Center providing post-conviction representation to indigent prisoners on Georgia’s death row. After graduating magna cum laude from the New York University School of Law in 1995, she served as a staff attorney for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, representing indigent defendants at trial and on appeal. In 2000 she joined the staff of the Habeas Corpus Resource Center in San Francisco, and in 2004 she became the Chief of the Capital Habeas Unit of the Arkansas Federal Defender Office. She held a similar position with the Delaware Federal Defender Office from 2009 until 2012. Ms. Brain currently maintains a private practice consisting of direct representation and consulting in state and federal capital trial and post-conviction cases.
