Rebekka Higgs

Rebekka Higgs has been serving the indigent accused for nearly 30 years. After starting her career at the San Diego County Public Defender, Rebekka became a Lead Attorney for the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender where she worked on several death penalty cases. Most notably, Rebekka Higgs served on the defense team for James Holmes in the Aurora Theater Shooting case winning a life verdict. She moved into private practice in 2017 where she continues doing capital defense in both state and federal courts. Rebekka has been a faculty member at the National College of Capital Voir Dire since 2012 and has worked as a capital jury selection expert in multiple states. Rebekka worked as a capital case consultant through NACDL assisting multiple teams in Arizona and California. She currently works with Suzerain Capital Defense teaching capital jury selection and consulting with teams throughout the country. She recently joined the Federal Capital Trial Project as a Federal Death Penalty Resource Counsel and currently serves as Learned Counsel on a Federal death penalty case.
