Kelson Bohnet
Kelson Bohnet joined the Federal Capital Trial Project as Capital Resource Counsel in 2026. Before joining, Kelson was an attorney in the capital trial units of the Kansas and Virginia state public defender systems, where he exclusively represented individuals facing the death penalty. He has managed numerous capital defense teams and has achieved life-preserving outcomes for each and every capital client. He began his public defense career in Colorado with the Denver Regional Trial Office, where he represented numerous people facing misdemeanor and felony charges. Kelson has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Kansas and has taught a law school class on jury selection, and undergraduate courses on courts, sentencing, and wrongful convictions.
