John A. Diaz

John A. Diaz is an attorney in private practice in New York City, where he is a partner at the firm Diaz & Moskowitz. He has specialized in federal complex, multiple defendant conspiracy, racketeering, and fraud cases.
He is a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and is a member of the Capital Panels there. As a member of the CJA Panels, John has represented numerous defendants in death eligible cases and has previously argued against the death penalty before the Department of Justice’s Capital Case Committee in Washington, D.C.
John is frequently assigned as Learned Counsel on Capital cases by judges in the SDNY and EDNY and has also been appointed as Learned Counsel on capital cases in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and District of New Jersey. He is also a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel Selection Committee for the Eastern District of New York and formerly served as a member of the Board of Directors of the New York City Criminal Bar Association.
John has also served as a member of the Attorneys for Children panels for the New York State Appellate Division of the First and Second Departments, where he represented children who had been placed in foster care as a result of abuse and neglect, destitute children, and children accused of crimes in juvenile delinquency proceedings. John is also the founder of the Youth Outreach Program and frequently serves as a motivational speaker for at-risk youth throughout the five boroughs.
Prior to being in private practice, John served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County (Manhattan). John attended Hunter College and graduated cum laude in 2002 and received his Juris Doctor degree from the City University of New York.
